Ania Ostrowska

Ania Ostrowska was a PhD candidate at the Univeristy of Southampton, fully funded by the AHRC project Calling the Shots: Women and Contemporary Film Culture in the UK, 2000-2015

Ania Ostrowska moved to the UK in 2005 with a BA(Hons) in International Relations awarded by the University of Warsaw in Poland. Abandoning ambitions to become a high-flying diplomat, she decided to boost her feminist credentials instead and got an MA in Gender Studies from SOAS, University of London. She has been a film editor for The F-Word, popular British feminist blog, since 2011, combining her love for moving pictures with promoting of independent films and filmmakers, feminist and beyond.

Ania’s contribution to Calling the Shots was her doctoral research looking at contemporary British women documentary filmmakers in crossover roles between film and TV.

Ania taught media studies at Brunel University London in 2019 and is now Digital Coordinator for the Screening Rights film festival, Birmingham’s International Festival of Social Justice Film.
